Only hikers, sheep, goats and cows. (All the livestock wear great big bells around their necks. These bells, along with the background waterfall rumble, created quite an alpine symphony.) We didn't see Heidi, but maybe her twin cousins.

If you get the feeling we liked this place, you're right.

Right now we're on the Italian coast: blue waters, warm breezes, big waves, speedos, linquini. We are staying in Vernazza-home of pesto-between Le Spezia and Genoa. One of five villages referred to as the Cinque Terre, Vernazza is only recently accessible by car. It is a small remote town where you either lay in the sun or sit at a harbour side bar under an umbrella and drink wine while you watch other people lay in the sun. We think we're getting the hang of “la dolce far niente” (the sweetness of doing nothing) because, this afternoon, our breakfast waiter came out to our patio table, smiled, patted ML on the shoulder and said “Long breakfast. Is good. You learn Italy,” and gave us the thumbs-up sign. Heading out for Greece tommorrow.

Ciao Bella!

VERY important p.s. Please e-mail us your snail-mail addresses. They were in ML's notebook that got stolen. Bastards. Our postcard writing has had to come to a grinding halt since we lost that mailing list. Also, Gary or Patti....please send us Nicks, Goldrush, and Tipperary Inn addresses.

CONGRATS TO: Paul and Jacquie, Donnie and Belinda on conceived and delivered babies. Harvey and Gayle on new jobs.
