My
mixed media art explores my ideas, meditations, and observations
about the vital importance of connecting with the past. Associations
with the past can be as tenuous as paper ephemera and as substantial
as metal; as color saturated as a glossy magazine, or as filmy
as a piece of gauze—often within the same split-second recollection.
Much
of my work questions the tradition of conventional, prescribed
lifestyle roles, particularly regarding women. I view my art as
a sort of alchemy which transforms discarded materials into integral
design elements.
I
hesitate to say too much when asked about my work; what a piece
says to me often may not be relevant to what it might say to the
viewer.
Peace,
Mary
