Update Number 13
Penned while suffering heat exhaustion
somewhere in Thailand
‘A Yankee Girl’s Lament’
by Mary Lynn Maloney
Thailand is pretty
And beach life is fun
But it’s too bloody hot
With all this sun
The food is fantastic
The lodgings are cheap
But I just can’t get past
This *!#@&%* heat
I sweat when I waken
I sweat at noon
I stay cool in the water
But emerge as a prune
I seek cyber-cafes
Wherever I go
‘Cuz computers, you see,
Require climates like snow
The crisp climes of Ireland
And Scotland I crave:
Wind, pubs, and turf fires
My sanity would save
But tonight my skin swelters
And sticks to this chair
So I’ll make the most of it
